You dont have to be strong or flexible to do pilates, doing pilates will make you strong and flexible
Most people I speak to avoid pilates because “they’re not strong or flexible enough” yet a consistant pilates practice will make you more strong and flexible. Pilates was invented for people with chronic pain, weak muscles, inflexible body, or a misaligned body, not doing pilates will make you the right candiate to do pilates. It will amned all of these concerns as well as giving you a plethoral of other benefits. It is true medicine with no side effects, how medicine should be. It’s the number one exercise recommended by physios and chiropracters and is why it resonates so much with me - a prevenative over cure approach to health, so its safe to say if you embark on a pilates journey you’ll never look back.
Lauren is an example of this transformation of your body for the better, although this message hasn’t been as communicated as much in all of the hype of pilates. Read a bit more about her and her story below.
Lauren Malcolm
Owner of FEELS pilates in Avalon, Cremorne, Frenches Forest and Narrabeen
How did you find pilates?
After having my first child, I noticed a bulging in my stomach like a ballon, after visiting the doctor they informed me that I had abdominal separation. Lauren was told that surgery would be needed as a remedy.
Lauren wasn’t comfortable with that option as she wanted to have more kids and was concerned about having surgery at young age, she did her research to find a more natural option and found Pilates.
She has now gone on to become a pilates instructor and within 10 years has 4 thriving pilates studios that gives everyone all the feels that pilates gave her all those years ago and rightly so named her company FEELS pilates.
What is abdominal seperation?
When the two long rectus abdonimus or “abb muscles” as its commonly knows as seperate from each other in the middle leaving a gap in the centermieter range - depending on the person this could be from 2 - 9 centerminters in length. The most common cause is during pregnancy from being stretched. For some people they never fully come back together after rehab exercises which isnt a concern if all your organs are functioning properly.
How long did it take for you to see results?
From my first experience I felt better, after 6 weeks a huge improvement was noticed and after a year of consistant practice Lauren could really see how pilates made a difference to her abdominal separation.
